Dormant: Artist Statement
Born and raised in Albuquerque NM, I grew up in a trailer park as a middle child in a single parent home. I always had the weird expectation to not expect much from life and to accept simplicity.
Growing up I had an affinity for making art and pursued arts education throughout my adolescence. I remember first being inspired to paint when I saw Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks". Today, Hopper is my primary influence and I feel connected with his beautiful and lonely depictions of the world.
Through my work, I aim to paint modern landscapes that depict the isolation and quiet moments that myself and possibly others experience every day. Painting the hidden beauty of the world and the scenes that are often overlooked. Finding comfort and appreciation for the simple moments.
